Who Am I? Why Am I Here?

I'm a long-time nerd who found his way into analytics and data science through an unexpected route: a middle school special education classroom. I grew up in Pasadena, CA, and earned dual degrees in Spanish Linguistics and Technical Theater at UC Berkeley. Because why pick just one thing? After college, I joined Teach For America thinking it’d be a two-year detour before law school. Instead, I spent five years teaching self-contained special education at a Title I school, learning firsthand how systems and inequities show up for kids and educators every day. Somewhere between managing IEP meetings, developing RTI programs, and building spreadsheets to track behavior plans, I realized I cared as much about how we do the work as what work we’re doing.

That interest in systems and tools led me to TFA’s national data team, where I leveled up from Excel wizardry to full-blown BI and analytics work, eventually earning my MS in Analytics from Georgia Tech. I then moved to leading a small but mighty Workforce Analytics team at KIPP SoCal, using data to improve how we support the adults who support our students. Most recently I’ve started a role with Kaiser Permanente’s Southern California and Hawaii Care at Home department focused on improving employee experience to drive better attendance outcomes.

I live in Duarte, CA with my wife and our two dogs, think too much about bad charts I see in the wild, and try to never miss an LA Kings game. If there’s a puzzle to solve—whether it’s in a D&D campaign or a messy dataset—I’m probably in.
